Keeping Up with Kicking Out The Jones'

We have lived in this house for approximately 2 years. Our neighbors are the parents of the previous owners. Should that have raised any flags? Probably, but everything seemed fine at first.

Then it moved on to what I called our "silent fighting." They will park their cars too close to our spots, so at least one of us has to park down the street. It would be understandable if they didn't have a 2 car garage, vacant lot, and the entire stretch of street in front of the vacant lot. It didn't bother me terribly, though.

Now it is not so silent. Not in the "I hate you!" sort of way, but they are doing external renovations. All day, all the time. Now, I'm sure they're not doing this just to make us angry. They are however being extremely inconsiderate. How am I supposed to sleep until 3 p.m. while they've got bulldozers slamming around? Not to mention their chipper start at 5 in the morning last week. I really loved that, I should go tell them how much...

I used to have a neightbour who would get up at 5am just to shovel (^*&%^% snow. That sound of shovel scraping ice and cement was grating to the senses. It was retarded to do it that early.

But what can you do but curse under your breath as you salute him on your way to the car in the morning?

I invested in ear plugs. It gave me back some sanity.

That's the problem, there isn't really much you can do. Ear plugs would be a good investment, though.

hello, i'm a first time reader, but thought i would give you me 2 cents. You might want to ask them to be a bit more considerate about the noise levels at certain times of the day.

The truth is, you can't have a bulldozer running late in the night because it would bother more people and on top of that, the people doing the work want to get home to their families.

So like I said, your best bet would be to go next door, and tell them you work 2nd/3rd shift and sleep during the day. If they wouldn't mind doing most of the work on the other side of the house until 2ish and then coming around near your house so you can get a bit more sleep.

Being the curious type, I'd be interested to know what they're upset about. Did you make some change to the property their kids used to own that they didn't like?

If you tell them, make sure you come back and tell us how it went.

Thankfully, my air conditioner somewhat masks the sound of their banging. Heat is keeping the peace.

We haven't done anything major to the property, but that is soon to come. Hopefully it isn't too big of a deal.

Perhaps a taller fence?
